The Funds of the Faith
As part of its efforts to connect with Local Spiritual Assemblies and the community, the National Spiritual Assembly has been sending representatives around the country for meetings and gatherings. At one such meeting, when consulting on the topic of Fund development and education - when questions were asked around budgets, level of participation and so forth, one member of the Local Assembly paused and shared an insight - that at the heart of giving to the Funds is love for Bahá’u’lláh. Indeed this is so, and without this no amount of facts and figures about the Fund can encourage regular, generous and sacrificial giving.
We know that “the impulse to give springs forth from the love of God. As this love fills our hearts, generosity comes to characterise the pattern of our conduct.” We have all, no doubt, experienced in our lives times when, in our love for someone, we have gone through great effort and sacrifice to please them and show our love for them through giving them a gift. And we have felt great happiness when we see that the gift was well received or truly needed. Consequently, we have found that, in giving, we have ourselves received. This is the joy of giving. How much greater is this feeling when we give to the Cause of God in our love for Bahá’u’lláh and in our desire to see the Faith spread through the execution of its plans.
Half Year Financial Update
Overall, contributions for the second quarter of the year increased from the first quarter by over $8,000 and were greater than what was contributed for the same period last year by $27,000.
Actual expenses for the same period amounted to $210,208 which is 65% of the budget for the same period.
For the first half of the year, total expenses are only utilising 28% of the total budget for the year. We know however that expenses usually peak in the summer months due to extra teaching initiatives and other key events, such as the Institute for Studies in Global Prosperity seminars, taking place during this time.
Based on total income (contributions and other income) of $356,776 as at the end of September and total expenses (including depreciation) of $364,579 for the same period, a deficit of $7,803 is being incurred.
