Preparing for a time of hospitality and joyful celebration
This year, the period designated as the Intercalary Days in the Bahá’í calendar begins at sunset 24 February to sunset 28 February.
As Ayyám-i-Há approaches, we are reminded of the special opportunity this time offers for generosity, service, and loving fellowship. In this article, we offer some suggestions and resources that may help you to plan Ayyám-i-Há celebrations that are joyful and purposeful.
Service to others
Consider organising a community project, volunteering, or simply reaching out to those who may need support. Whether it’s preparing a meal for a neighbour, writing a heartfelt letter, or donating to a local cause, small acts of service leave a lasting impact and can bring joy to others and uplift our communities.
Hospitality and fellowship
Hosting a gathering, even a very simple one, creates an atmosphere of warmth and joy. Sharing stories, prayers, and laughter over a meal fosters unity and strengthens bonds of friendship. Inviting others to your home provides an opportunity to extend generosity and love, and if you have children, it is a great way to encourage your children to learn how to host.
Creative giving
Thoughtful, meaningful gifts, especially handmade items, along with words of encouragement, can be a beautiful way to express love and appreciation for others during Ayyám-i-Há. The spirit of giving during Ayyám-i-Há is very much about thoughtfulness, generosity and bringing joy to others.
