Speakers explore significance of the bicentenary

Two addresses from the national celebration for the bicentenary of the Birth of the Báb, held at Parliament Buildings on 22 October, can be viewed below. They are the keynote address by Dame Robin White and the welcome speech by Ms Priyanca Radhakrishnan MP.

Artist Robin White describes the inspiration for the masi (tapa cloth) artwork “Suka Siti” (Sugar City) — which features the 19 terraces on Mount Carmel with the Shrine of the Báb located at the centre of the large artwork. Her talk weaves together the role of the Báb as the Gate, with the symbolism of the various elements of the artwork, created by Robin and two Fijian collaborators, Leba Toki and Bale Jione.

In her speech, Priyanca Radhakrishnan MP shares some beautiful thoughts and reflections on the importance of the bicentenary and her appreciation of what Bahá'ís contribute to the community.

A third video posted below summarises highlights from the event at Parliament Buildings. (The third video was previously posted in a newsletter article headed “Video captures vibrant spirit of national bicentenary event”.)
