Ayyam-i-Ha charity initiative in Waipa
For Ayyám-i-Há the Waipa community hosted an afternoon tea in a local park in Te Awamutu.
Friends and local whanau were invited to share the afternoon tea and to contribute items to be put into Covid care packs for families isolating and in need in the local community. During the Ayyám-i-Há celebration we also made putiputi (flax flowers) to decorate the bags, and coloured in an embellished quote of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá which was also added into each bag.
The Bahá’ís had consulted with the local Kainga Aroha Community House to find out if they would be happy to distribute the bags to those in need and also discussed the types of items to be included in the bags..
Seventeen generous packs were made, and donated to the community house. They were delighted to receive them.
In conversation later in the week, Kainga Aroha staff said there had been many positive comments, and on their Facebook page under the photo of the presentation of the packs, staff posted: “Our families have really appreciated these. Mihinui our Bahá’í whanau.” Another person posted: “Wonderful. Such caring whanau”
We are keen to continue the relationship with the Kainga Aroha Community House, as they serve the community in a diverse range of ways.
