An invitation from the Bahá’ís of the Hawaiian Islands
The National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of the Hawaiian Islands has warmly invited the friends in Aotearoa New Zealand to join in commemorating a significant milestone in the history of the Faith in the Pacific.
On 26 December 2026, it will be 125 years since Agnes Baldwin Alexander, later appointed a Hand of the Cause of God, arrived in the Hawaiian Islands in 1901. Her arrival marked the introduction of the Bahá’í Faith to the Pacific and the beginning of a remarkable life of service that would touch communities across many islands and nations.
To honour this wonderful anniversary, the Bahá’í community of the Hawaiian Islands is planning a commemorative gathering, expected to take place either at the end of December 2026 or in early January 2027, near the anniversary of Agnes Alexander’s arrival.
In a letter received by the National Spiritual Assembly of New Zealand on 24 July, the National Spiritual Assembly of the Hawaiian Islands extended a special invitation to the friends in Aotearoa:
“Should any of the believers wish to join the friends in the Hawaiian Islands for this celebration, they would be most welcome. It would be a joy to gather with friends from across Australasia in gratitude for the life of this radiant soul whose service spanned so many islands and nations.”
Responding on 29 July, the National Spiritual Assembly of New Zealand expressed its delight at learning of the plans and its pleasure in sharing the invitation with the friends throughout Aotearoa:
“Our Assembly also sends its loving congratulations in advance of this significant occasion and extends its warmest best wishes as you continue your planning and preparations. May the celebrations be a source of joy, unity, and inspiration for all who participate.”
Friends who may be considering travel to Hawai’i around this time are warmly encouraged to keep this special gathering in mind. Further details, including confirmed dates and programme information, will be shared as they become available.
Agnes Baldwin Alexander and the Tablets of the Divine Plan
Agnes Baldwin Alexander’s service is beautifully reflected in the Tablets of the Divine Plan. She is the only Hand of the Cause of God to be mentioned by ‘Abdu’l-Bahá in these Tablets. The Tablets of the Divine Plan can be read in full through the Bahá’í Reference Library.
