Opportunity to serve in the Bahá’í National Office
With a long-serving member of staff leaving the role shortly, the National Spiritual Assembly warmly invites the friends to consider an opportunity for service within the Bahá’í National Office in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland. Serving in the National Office offers a meaningful way to contribute one’s time, abilities, and experience to the advancement of the Cause, within an environment shaped by Bahá’í principles and animated by a spirit of love, learning, and fellowship. Shared below is the full notice, outlining the nature of the role, the capacities sought, and details on how to express an interest.
Service in the New Zealand Bahá’í National Office
The Bahá’í National Office acts as a focal point and hub of Bahá’í administrative activity and supports all the activities of the National Spiritual Assembly. The scope of the work of the National Office continues to grow in order to respond to the needs of the National Assembly and of the Bahá’í community, and it is a special bounty to be able to devote oneself fully and directly to the advancement of the Cause through serving the National Office. The institutions of the Faith are to be a channel for the redeeming spirit of the Cause of Baháʼu'lláh, and while all Bahá’ís strive to contribute to the betterment of the world through their trade or profession, having the opportunity to assist in the development of the Faith at the Bahá’í National Office is an added blessing.
The operation of the National Office aims to be a means by which Bahá’í spiritual and administrative principles can be exemplified in the workplace, and by cultivating an atmosphere that is conducive to building capacity for service and permeated with a spirit of love and fellowship, will increasingly symbolise the ideal of service animating the Bahá’í community.
The National Spiritual Assembly invites sincere and devoted friends who strive to serve with excellence, and who work well with others, to consider the opportunity that exists to serve in the National Secretariat and contribute to the sacred work of the Faith.
This position requires English language ability at a high level (both written and oral) and a good understanding of the conceptual framework governing the current series of global Plans. Also important is a willingness to engage in a systematic learning process with others. Other capacities and qualities that may be relevant are:
Computer literacy to a reasonable degree
A positive manner; discretion and confidentiality
Ability to help build capacity in others
Engagement with the current Nine Year Plan in some form, such as tutoring a study circle or hosting regular devotional gatherings, or working in a group of families to support initiatives
Preference is for a person who can fulfil full-time hours, 40 hours per week, in the National Office in Newmarket, Auckland. However, the National Assembly will consider part-time arrangements on a case-by-case basis, and there is flexibility for the successful applicant to work from home for a portion of the time. Remuneration will be determined by agreement, based on the needs of the individual and scope of the work.
Anyone with a desire to serve the Faith, even if you do not feel you have all of the required capacities listed above, is urged to express an interest.
Members of the Bahá’í community are invited to submit expressions of interest by 9 February — preferably providing their resumé, briefly noting professional and Bahá’í experiences and background, to hr@bahai.org.nz.
