Unit Conventions 2026: Key information for believers

Unit Conventions 2026: Key information for believers

Preparing for the 2026 Unit Conventions

Each year, Bahá’ís across Aotearoa New Zealand gather for unit conventions to carry out their sacred responsibility: the election of delegates to the National Convention. Through a secret ballot, adult believers aged 18 and over participate in these unit elections, with those aged 21 and above eligible to be elected as delegates from their respective electoral units. These delegates are, in turn, entrusted with the responsibility of electing the members of the National Spiritual Assembly during the Ridván period (21st April - 02nd May 2026). The National Convention for 183 BE will be held over three full days 25-27 April, in Auckland.

Unit conventions provide an opportunity for prayerful reflection and consultation, strengthening the bonds of unity amongst the believers and contributing to the collective life of the Faith at a national level. For those elected as delegates, the National Convention offers a unique space to consult on matters of national importance with the National Spiritual Assembly.

As we approach the 182 BE unit conventions on Sunday 15 February 2026, the Bahá’í National Office has compiled a comprehensive table of information to support the participation of friends across all units. This resource is intended to assist believers in identifying where and when their unit convention will take place and to ensure that those unable to attend in person are able to participate through postal/absentee ballots.

The table that will open from the link below provides key details for each unit, including:

  • the localities within each unit

  • host Assemblies (shown in bold)

  • unit convention times and venues

  • the number of delegates to be elected (a total of 57 allocated to NZ by the House of Justice)

  • names of Head Tellers

  • and postal addresses for sending ballots

Friends are encouraged to consult this table carefully and to bear in mind that if you are not able to participate in the unit convention, you are still playing your part in this important element of Bahá’í community life and the Administrative Order, by ensuring you vote for your unit’s delegate/s.
